Corrections Policy

Corrections and Complaints

The Eccentric is committed to accuracy. When we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and openly.

Reporting an error. If you believe we have published something inaccurate, please reach us through Contact Us page. It helps if you provide the article title, its web address, the specific point you believe is wrong, and a source, if available.

How we handle corrections. Once an error is verified, we amend it as quickly as we can. We distinguish three kinds of change:

  1. a correction fixes a material factual mistake;
  2. a clarification addresses wording that was accurate but open to misunderstanding;
  3. an update adds new information to a developing piece.

Where a change materially alters the meaning of an article, we publish it as a correction: we note it at the foot of the piece with the date and describe what the article previously said, so the record shows not only that it changed but also how. Minor typographical fixes are made without a note. We do not quietly delete or silently rewrite articles to settle complaints: the published record is preserved and annotated rather than erased.

Responsibility. Corrections are overseen by the Editor.

Timeframe. We aim to acknowledge correction requests within ten working days.
