THE STATEMENT

Friday, 9 April 2021

The Members and the Committee of the Eccentric Club are deeply saddened by the loss of our Patron, the Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

He always inspired all of us with his unbending spirit, original judgement, unclouded by the changing conventions, love for life, unfailing loyalty to his country, its people and his family. His warmth, great sense of humour and genuine interest in people from all backgrounds and nations, won him our everlasting admiration.

Although the departure of the Duke of Edinburgh may be seen as the closing of an era, we are deeply grateful for his great legacy, left to us to enjoy, explore and apply in our everyday lives.

He was a true knight of our hearts and a great national hero, whose life should and shall serve as a shining example to many. He was a role model, which we shall admire for many years to come.

Above all, he was a caring father, grandfather and great grandfather to his family, and a much-loved friend to us all. We shall miss meeting him again and sharing his always delightful and unique company.

The club offers its deepest condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and her family at this sad time.
